Transformer Calculation is program for calculating number of coils and wire
thickness at transformer.
If you have some experience in assembling transformers, then this program is
perfect for you.
If you don't know anything about assembling transformers, please don't use
calculations from this program for building your own transformer! Wrong calculation can do damage to your electric device attached to
electric network, and IT CAN KILL YOU !!!
You can still use this program to determine how big EI core of transformer must
be, if you plan to buy transformer. Note there are lots of transformers that are
hybrids, so if you need transformer for amplifier buy right sized transformer.
Hybrid transformer are ordinarily small and under high load it can overheat.
Current version can calculate values only for standard transformer core,
that's "W" and "U" profile of core.
Note that working frequency of all calculations is 50 Hz (you can use it for 60 Hz
too), in next release I'll add ability to change that frequency.
Toroid transformers (ring profile of core) and others aren't supported.
How I decide to write this program? Well it's simple, I work calculation for
new transformer and I didn't have that thin wire for coil. So I lose some hours
while recalculating new voltage and amperage for wire which I have.
I started to assemble wire on coil and realize that wire isn't long enough.
Then I write this program and lose 3 minutes to make new calculation for that
transformer with new wire.
Transformer is finish and work perfect in my amplifier 2x7 Watts.
I think that you can find this program useful.
You can write to me suggestions, corrections and other things on e-mail:
electronics(ατ)sklaic.info (replace (ατ) with @)
New program is stopped due lack of my free time. Thanks to all who wrote me
e-mail and make suggestions for TODO list.
If you have knowledge, will and free time to create formulas which includes
something from TODO list, you are welcome to join me. Currently I have
constructed skeleton for new program and I only need formulas to integrate it.
Formulas used in this version are simplified with more tolerance values to
accommodate different values used and it's not intend for precision calculation.
Therefore listed changes require new set of formulas which are more complex and
very precise.
So if you want to join into this project, e-mail me and you have your name in program.
However I'm open for commercial suggestions too, so if you have working and
tested formulas I have time to make program.
Here is the list what else I can put in program :
Cross-section area to display VA and W values.
Field for VA entry to gives cross-section area.
Field for operating magnetic flux (B) parameter.
Option for translating the wire size into standard wire gauge (swg).
Field for change operating frequency (f) parameter.
Option for converting between metric and imperial values.
Option for edit number of turns or/and wire thickness to get voltage and amperage.
Formulas for P type of core.
Add edit option for input voltage.
Fix some bug if it's found.
Section for recalculating if calculated wires can't fit on coil.
Section for calculating input/output voltage and amperage from cross-section
, wire thickness and turns on primary and secondary.
This is free software and there is no warranty if something happened by using
this program. Use this program with care!
If you already test and assemble transformer then that program may be very
useful.
Otherwise do not try to assemble transformer using calculations from this
program!
